How to Make the Most of Your Time and Score!

What we all want is to grow our business or organization. We want to make more money and make a greater impact doing what gives us purpose and fuels our passion.

So, why does the thought of planning and goal setting create a pit in our stomachs? Could it be that the experts, who tell us how to do this, have 15-page guides or three-day seminars to get us there?! Does it really need to be that complex or labor intensive to make meaningful progress?

No! The key is to take action that gives you results! This is where trusting your experience and intuition can serve you.

As business people, we know instinctively what we need to do to secure more clients and grow our business or organization. What trips us up is that the ‘urgent’ often zaps our time and energy leading to a lack of focused action. We know this is a problem and we know we need to plan our day, but arrrrhhh, the process. So we procrastinate – at least I do!

Zig Ziglar says, “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”

Huh? That is just not right!

Oh, yes it is. The idea is, move NOW with what you KNOW and ADJUST as you go. It’s the ole law of inertia – an object in motion, stays in motion. So get into motion by taking action. As leaders and entrepreneurs we know that action increases our confidence, reduces fear (the mind killer), and opens up our mind to opportunities and possibilities.

Here’s an approach that I have found really works and I’ve developed a FREE one-page tool so you can use it as well. Yes, there are all types of Apps you can use (e.g. Lift, Wunderlist, and Winstreak), but there’s something very powerful about writing down your most profitable action for the day and keeping it in front of you.

To take more profitable action tomorrow, take just 3-5 minutes at the end of today and fill in this Profit Daily! tool. It will focus your actions and help you create fast results.

STEP 1 – Write down 1-3 Income producing actions. These actions could include reaching out to potential new clients, adding value to existing products or services, or asking happy clients for referrals.

STEP 2 – Write down one thing you can do to streamline your business functions. This means identifying those time zappers that could be managed by coming up with a system (or assigning a task to someone) to free you up to grow your business.

STEP 3 – Capture the great ideas that come to you during the day. Now that you’re focused on new ideas, you’re going to have them. Capture them so you can review later as part of your business growth plan. Remember, it’s often the small ideas and innovations that result in the greatest profit.

At the end of the month, take a long lunch and review these sheets. Look for patterns of things that worked and keep doing them. Look for patterns that are not serving you and cut them out of your day. And most importantly, look at those ideas, and implement the top two that you believe will grow your business.

It’s amazing what a little bit of clarity, followed up by focused action, can do for your bottom line.
